Sporting Clube de Goa ease past Vasco

Chandrashekar Chinta and Boima Karpeh were on the score sheet as Sporting Clube de Goa overcame Vasco Sports Club 2-0 in Round 6 of GFA’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the interval.

Sporting Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon brought Creson Antao into the starting line up to partner Clemente Joseph in defence, as Spaniard Pablo Gallardo was suspended after picking up two yellow cards in previous games.

Sporting Goa started brightly and took the lead after just eleven minutes from the unlikeliest of sources. Rowllin Borges sent in cross and defender Chandrashekar Chinta gave the Flaming Oranje the lead with a beautiful header.

Sporting Goa continued to apply pressure throughout the half with the playing making puppetry of Rowlin Borges and Cajetan Fernandes orbiting around, to unleash the likes of the young and exciting Mauvin Borges and hardworking Beevan D’Mello.

Changing over, the game got a little physical with three Vasco players entering the referee’s book in a short eight minute spell.

Vasco continued to battle forward and had their moments. In the closing stages Vasco’s Jerose Oliveira saw his headed effort cleared off the goal line by Cajetan, while minutes later Vasco’s Semson Fernandes rattled the cross bar with a scorching 30-yard free kick.

Twelve minutes from time, substitute Boima put the game beyond doubt as he timed his run into the box to perfection, to hoodwink the Vasco defence and slice in a low driven cross by Beevan.

The victory allowed Sporting Goa to move up to 4th place with 8 points from sixth matches and in the process leapfrog over Vasco who have 7 points from the same number of games.
