Sporting Clube de Goa XI lift Nigerian Independence Day trophy

Sumeet Passi netted a brace as a Sporting Clube de Goa XI hammered a Nigerian All-Star XI 6-0 in a goodwill friendly match to mark the Nigerian Independence Day at Sangolda Ground on Wednesday morning.

The match was organsied by former Sporting Clube de Goa star Abdulateef Seriki to commemorate his countrymen’s Independence Day.

Sporting Goa played a combination of U-20 players along with a few senior players who are just coming back from injury. From the word go, the young Flaming Oranje team were eager to impress and strung together some neat passes and confidently shooting at every opportunity.

Anto Xavier opened the scoring for Sporting Goa after receiving a neat pull back from Passi. Soon after, Passi headed in to double the lead for the Flaming Oranje.

Changing over, Passi completed his brace, while Brandon Fernandes, Olwin Cardoza and Jonathan Cardosa also got their names on the score sheet to wrap up the half dozen for Sporting Goa.

The match was played with a good sporting spirit and after the game the Nigerian players handed over the winner’s trophy.
