Salgaocar FC U-16 secure narrow win against Sporting Goa

Salgaocar FC Juniors narrowly overcame Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1 in a GFA U-16 1st Division League encounter at Velsao Ground, on Friday. Salgaocar led 2-0 at the breather.

It was Sporting Goa who enjoyed the lion share of the early exchanges, but failed to capitilise. Dwayne Britto drilled his shot into the side netting and moments later Stendly Fernandes’ free kick was easily saved by the Salgaocar custodian.

Seven minutes before the lemon break, Salgaocar surged ahead when Joston Cardoz blasted a shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Rollwin Almeida doubled Salgaocar’s lead from the penalty spot after Sporting Goa’s Maxwell Fernandes had brought down Rollwin in the box.

A super fight back from the Flaming Oranje in the second half, allowed them to pull a goal back through substitute Allwyn Vaz who jumped high to head in across from Vijay Rathod.

The closing stages was nail biting as Sporting Goa ushered men forward in search of the equalizer, but Salgaocar managed to hold out for the three points.
