Niersbach optimistic about German 2024 UEFA EURO bid

German FA (DFB) president Wolfgang Niersbach has rated Germany’s chances to host the 2024 UEFA EURO at 80%.

“I’m quite optimistic on this topic, because it’s well prepared,” Niersbach told during the 19th SPONSORs Business Summit (SpoBiS) in Dusseldorf, Germany on Tuesday.

“It’s important that the whole country will support it. And all of us need to be the host  – not only the DFB and football. That was the big secret of the success in 2006 (of the FIFA World Cup).”

Niersbach will meet German chancellor Angela Merkel at the sidelines of the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) final in Berlin on June 6 to discuss the 2024 UEFA EURO bid.

Turkey will be most likely the only other country to launch a bid to host the European Championship finals.
