Indian Women take on Sri Lanka in Olympic Qualifiers Round 1

The Indian Women’s Senior National Team square off against Sri Lanka in their opening encounter of the Rio 2016 Women’s Olympic Qualifiers Round 1 on March 13 at the Mandalar Thiri Sports Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar. The match kicks off at 16.00 IST.

The Indian Women arrived five days prior to their opening match on March 9, as to acclimatize to sweltering weather conditions.

Although Sri Lanka lost their opening match of the tournament against Myanmar 16-0, Head Coach Sajid Dar feels that that the Indian eves must not take their opponents lightly.

Speaking to AIFF Media earlier, Sajid said: “We should not get complacent against Sri Lanka. They are a good team and we respect team. The game of football is unpredictable, anything can happen. If we are to win; we have to work hard.”

One of the senior most members of the national team, Oinam Bembem Devi, seconded Sajid’s dissection and expressed, “Sri Lanka are a good team. They will be looking to play for pride in their second match against us and it will be difficult fixture for us to win. We have to work as a single unit to clinch victory”

The Indian eves will face Myanmar in their second encounter of the Women’s Olympic Qualifier on March 15.
