FC Goa sign former Brazil captain Lucio as their marquee player

Hero Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa have signed Lucimar Ferreira da Silva, better known as Lúcio, as their marquee player for the second season of the league.

The former Brazilian national team captain started his professional career in 1998 with Sport Club Internacional, before moving to Europe to join Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2001.

Lúcio then moved on to German giants FC Bayern Munich to don the red jersey from 2004 to 2009. The central defender continued his career with Inter Milan, Juventus, São Paulo FC and Palmeiras.

Lúcio has earned 105 caps for Brazil’s senior national team, besides winning various prestigious titles including the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A.

The 37 year old will replace Robert Pires as FC Goa’s marquee player.
