FC Pune City sign Turkish icon Tuncay Şanlı

FC Pune City have signed former Turkey international Tuncay Volkan Şanlı, popularly known as Tuncay, for Season 2 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

The 33 year old forward started his career at Sakaryaspor, before he continued to play for Fenerbahçe, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, VfL Wolfsburg, Bolton Wanderers, Bursaspor and Umm Salal.

Tuncay has represented Turkey at junior and senior level. He has represented the senior national team 80 times, while scoring 22 goals.

He won various silverware at club level, besides winning many individual awards e.g. 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup Silver Ball, the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup Silver Shoe and the 2008 FIFA Fair Play Award.

Tuncay is the latest signing by the ISL side coached by former England star David Platt. The club has already announced the signings of Adrian Mutu, Didier Zokora, James Bailey, Steve Simonsen and Yendrick Ruiz, besides several Indian star players like Gouramangi Moirangthem Singh, Eugeneson Lyngdoh and Jackichand Singh.
