The All India Football Federation (AIFF) condoles the death of former Indian international Prasanta Sinha.
Sinha, who was a part of the 1962 Asian Games Gold Medal winning squad, passed away after a brief illness at a private nursing home in Kolkata on Tuesday (September 22).
He was 75 and is survived by his daughter.
In the 1962 Asian Games Final against South Korea in Jakarta, it was Sinha who had provided the pass to the Late Jarnail Singh to score the winner as India won 2-1. He had made his debut the previous match in the semifinal against South Vietnam.
AIFF President, Praful Patel in his message said: “It is sad to hear that Mr. Prasanta Sinha is no more. His contribution to Indian football will never be forgotten. I share the grief.”
AIFF General Secretary, Kushal Das said: “Mr. Prasanta Sinha will be alive in his achievements. He has been the inspiration of so many footballers. May he rest in peace.”
Sinha, who was a wing half and represented India in 27 international matches scoring one goal, was also part of the Indian squad in the 1964 Asia Cup and the 1964 Merdeka Cup, where India finished as runners-up on both occasions.
At the domestic level, he won many a laurel representing East Bengal and Eastern Railway.
