German Bundesliga side 1. FC Cologne (1. FC Köln) and their kit supplier ERIMA have launched a special kit honouring the most important season for the people of Cologne and area – the traditional carnival (“Fastelovend”) which happens to be one of the biggest of its kind in the world.

The club will wear the new jersey during their home matches in the carnival season. The Cologne Carnival will start on November 11, 2015 and end on Ash Wednesday (February 10, 2016).

The design of the red jersey is based on the officers tunic of Cologne’s oldest carnival corps, the Roten Funken. The jersey features the city arms and the slogan of the carnival season “Mer stelle alles op der Kopp” (“We put everything upside down”).

“I think our fans will like it,” 1. FC Cologne’s Managing Director Alexander Wehrle told. “We are happy to work closely together with ERIMA, a partner that helped us develop this unique kit. We are also thankful to our kit sponsor REWE, who are fully on board with the design and motto of the kit.”

“This kind of a project is only possible with 1. FC Köln, and undoubtedly one of the reasons why our collaboration with this club is so much fun,” said ERIMA CEO Wolfram Mannherz. “We are proud of this idea and are excited to see how FC fans and the people of Cologne will react to it.”

1. FC Cologne will wear the new carnival jersey in their Bundesliga home fixture against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on November 21.
