Seven Goan boys shortlisted for final 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup trials

Seven boys from Goa have been shortlisted for possible selection to the India U-17 national team squad for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in India.

The selected boys were chosen from the 30 probables shortlisted from Goa by the AIFF Regional Scouts. The boys went through their paces under India U-15 national team Assistant Coach Etibar Dino at the selection trials held this week at the artificial turf ground outside Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

The selected boys – defenders Warren Carl Fernandes and Sashane Kahar, midfielders Malcolm Mervin Gonsalves, Jovin Seby De Melo, David Jason Baptista Cardoso and Larryl Rancio Mascarenhas and striker Vijay Rathod – would be added to the pool of probable aspirants vying for a much coveted place in the final squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The selection to the squad remains a fairly open and continuous process with AIFF Regional Scouts fanning out to all the states in a bid to identify probables who will develop into key members of the team that is expected to put India on the global footballing stage in the first ever FIFA tournaments to be staged by India.
