India U-14 boys go down 0-1 against Afghanistan

The India U-14 Men’s National Team went down fighting 0-1 against Afghanistan in their second match of the AFC U-14 Regional Festival of Football 2016 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan today (May 27, 2016).

Coming on the back of a 3-1 win over Kyrgyzstan in their opening match, the Indian U-14 team dominated possession and showed conviction in attack. But were left reeling as chances fostered never saw the light of day.

In the 13th minute, Vikram’s volley from more than 25 yards out went whiskers wide of the goal. Wave after wave of Indian attack could not penetrate through the Afghan defence as the half-time score-line read 0-0 as both teams went into the tunnel on level pegging.

Changing over and Afghanistan took the lead in the 58th minute as they scored against the run of play, following a counter attack which caught the Indian defence napping as the score-line read 1-0.

The Indian colts pressed hard for the equalizer but were unable to earn dividends as the full-time scoreline read 1-0 in Afghanistan’s favour.

The Indian team clashes swords against Iran and Nepal next on May 29, 2016 at 10.30 IST and 18.00 IST respectively.
