Wayne Rooney receives Vauxhall England Player of the Year Award

England captain Wayne Rooney received his Vauxhall England Player of the Year for 2015 earlier this week, retaining the title for the second successive year.

The award is voted for by the England Supporters Club and captain Rooney adds this accolade to his account for last year after also becoming the Three Lions’ all-time top goalscorer, with 37 per cent of the votes to claim the England POTY for a fourth time.

The Manchester United striker scored five goals in his eight England appearances during 2015, including his record-breaking penalty against Switzerland which took his overall international tally to 50 to surpass Sir Bobby Charlton’s record.
