India U-17 World Cup boys lose 0-3 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen U-16s

The India Under-17 World Cup squad suffered a 0-3 defeat against the Under-16 boys of German Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen yesterday, July 7 evening.

The Indian Colts started the match on an attacking note and in the 4th minute Boris was released by Amarjit onto goal, but the former ran into defensive traffic as India searched for an early lead.

Two goals in quick succession in the 11th and the 13th minute handed Bayer 04 Leverkusen a 2-0 lead going into the tunnel at half-time. However, India had an opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 23rd minute when Komal’s shot flew whiskers wide of the goal, after bursting clear onto the opposition goal.

The German opposition scored their third goal minutes into the second half and took an unassailable 3-0 lead. India tried to minimize the deficit but were left reeling as the German defence kept them at bay, and at the end of time the full-time scoreline read 3-0 in Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s favour.

A tough encounter for the India colts, but surely lessons learned against quality German opposition.
