Tata Steel owned Jamshedpur FC name Steve Coppell as manager

Indian Super League expansion franchise Tata Steel owned Jamshedpur FC have named Englishman Steve Coppell as their manager for their ISL debut with former India international Ishfaq Ahmed as his assistant coach.

The Tata Steel owned team has been looking to sign a manager for quite some time, but certain deals fell through and in the end it was Steve Coppell, who coached Kerala Blasters last season, to sign for them on the dotted line.

“Tata Steel has a long and enduring commitment to sports, especially football. Our foray into ISL is in line with the commitment to develop Indian football. Jamshedpur Football Club’s association with Steve Coppell and Ishfaq Ahmed is yet another step in this direction,” T.V. Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel India & South-East Asia, said in a company statement.

Now the work starts for Steve Coppell and Ishfaq Ahmed to put together a competitive squad for Jamshedpur FC from the domestic players draft and foreign signings.

From a club owned by Tata Steel, who have been running the Tata Football Academy for over three decades a lot will be expected.
