FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 – Matchday 1 – Round-up

The FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 kicked off today with Group A and Group B matches taking place in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai.

Turkey were the first team to score in the first FIFA Tournament to take place on the Indian subcontinent, as FC Schalke 04 midfielder Ahmed Kutucu found the back of the net in their 1-1 draw against New Zealand in Group B.

Hosts India started their Group A campaign with a 3-0 defeat to the United States. Josh Sargent converted a penalty in the 30th minute, while Chris Durkin and Andrew Carleton completed the goal scoring.

Ghana registered a win in their FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 Group A match earlier in the day. Sadiq Ibrahim scored the lone goal of the match to secure the Africans three points.

Meanwhile, fans in Navi Mumbai witnessed a goal festival in the second Group B match as Paraguay defeated Mali 3-2.

The tournament will continue tomorrow with two Group C matches in Goa (Germany v Costa Rica and Iran v Guinea) and two Group D matches in Kochi (Brazil v Spain and Korea DPR v Niger).
