FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 – Matchday 2 – Round-up

Football powerhouses Brazil and Germany started their FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 campaign on a successful note, while debutants Niger secured their place in the history books with a win against Korea DPR.

Brazil registered a 2-1 win against Spain in front of an impressive crowd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Spain took an early lead through an own gowl by Wesley, but Lincoln and Paulinho turned the match into Brazil’s favour within the first half.

The second Group D match of the day saw Niger win their first ever FIFA World Cup match as Salim Abdourahmane scored the lone goal against Korea DPR.

Germany had luck on their side as Christian Wück’s team scored in the dying moments of their Group C match against Costa Rica. Star striker Jann-Fiete Arp, who made his Bundesliga debut last Sunday, opened the scoresheet for the Germans. while Andres Gomez levelled the score line in the second half. But Noah Awuku managed to score a late winner for Germany.

Meanwhile, Iran secured a convincing 3-1 win against Guinea. The fans in Goa had to wait till the second half to see both sides start scoring.
