England win historic FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 Final in Kolkata
England have won the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 in style to claim the coveted trophy. The “Young Lions” recorded a 5-2 win against Spain in front of a sell-out crowd at the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata.
England had the first chance of the match in the very first minute of the game, but they were denied a goal by the rival goalkeeper.
Spain took advantage of their first chance in the 10th minute when Sergio Gomez slotted home from a close distance.
The match turned into an entertaining end-to-end affair and it looked like the “Young Lions” could level the score line before the breather.
But Sergio Gomez increased the lead for “La Rojita” with a powerful shot past England goalkeeper Anderson.
England reduced the margin moments before the half-time whistle as Rhian Brewster found the back of the net with a powerful header.
Things even got better for the English team, when Morgan Gibbs White scored the equaliser and Phil Foden turned the game into England’s favour in the 69th minute.
Marc Guehi and Philip Foden added two more goals to seal England’s terrifc comeback win against Spain in the final and their maidan FIFA U-17 World Cup title.
Meanwhile, Brazil finished their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign on a winning note with after a 2-0 victory against Mali in the 3rd Place Match earlier in the day. Alan and Yuri Alberto scored the goals for the South Americans.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017, the first FIFA tournament on the Indian subcontinent, has set new records. More than 1.2 million fans attended the games at the stadiums in the six Indian host cities, while the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 broke the all-time attendance record in the history of the tournament.
