2018 SheBelieves Cup – Matchday 2: Two draws at Red Bull Arena

The 2018 SheBelieves Cup continued at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on Sunday with the doubleheader USA v France and Germany v England.

The high-profile four-nation Women’s football tournament had kicked off in Columbus, OH on Thursday, when England thumped France 4-1 and the United States claimed a 1-0 win against Germany.

The second matchday attracted 25,706 fans to the stadium and both matches turn out to be close affairs.

United States 1-1 France

Mallory Pugh (35′) put the United States in the lead with a left-footed shot, which France goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi couldn’t stop from bouncing into the back of the net. France levelled the score line three minutes later, when Eugenie LeSommer dribbled around United States goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher to put the ball into the far side netting.

Germany 2-2 France

Germany and England tied 2-2 in the second game of the day. Hasret Kayikci (17′) opened the score sheet for the Germans, but England restored parity in the 19th minute as Ellen White hit the target. England’s Millie Bright (51′) put the German’s back in the lead with an own goal, but Ellen White (73′) secured the Lioness a 2-2 draw with her second goal.

The SheBelieves Cup will conclude on Wednesday in Orlando, FL with France v Germany and USA v England.

The winner of the tournament will be based on total points from all matches, with the first tie-breaker being overall goal difference, followed by most total tournament goals scored, then head-to-head result and lastly, FIFA World Ranking if necessary.
