Aizawl hosts exhibition match on AFC Women’s Football Day & International Women’s Day

The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) celebrated Asian Football Confederation Women’s Football Day and International Women’s Day today by organising an exhibition match at AR Lammual Stadium in Aizawl.

Independence Day Football 2017 champions Pachhunga University College faced off against The Rest XI consisting of noted players from various women teams. Both teams settled for a 2-2 draw in an entertaining display of football.

MFA Women’s Committee Chairman Lalruatsanga Tochhawng stated that the MFA is currently doing its utmost in promoting women’s football throughout the state. “We have recognised the level of progress we can achieve going forward in women’s football, and we are currently moving in the right direction towards achieving our goal.”

“Women’s football has not been given sufficient priority in the past, but the MFA, with guidance from the AIFF, is taking the necessary steps and has already set long-term goals for women’s football.”

Young footballers from MFA Grassroots football programme also took part in some sessions beside the exhibition match today.
