Mohammedan Sporting unveil Ethiopian star Fikru Teferra Lemessa

Mohammedan Sporting Club on Sunday officially unveiled new signing Fikru Teferra Lemessa in a press conference held at the Club tent.

Fikru, who arrived in Kolkata on Saturday morning, watched later in the day his new teammates trash Chennayin FC Reserves 4-0 from the stands at Barasat Stadium.

“The chance to play for a club like Mohammedan Sporting was something I could not turn down,” said Fikru.

“Mohammedan Sporting are a team with tradition that always want to win. I think coming to Mohammedan Sporting was my destiny. I want to enjoy my football and make the most of the opportunity Mohammedan Sporting have given me,” the mercurial striker added.

The Club has been chasing the Ethopian’s signature since last season and after finally landing their long-time target, General Secretary Ghazal Uz Zafar said, “Fikru is one of the best attacking players who played in India in the recent past, and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players.”

“We are very excited to get a player in who will be committed and focused. It is vital as well to have players who have experience, because we have a very good bunch of young players but you also need a good weight of experience in your team and he will contribute to that,” said Football Secretary Sharique Ahmed.

Fikru, who will wear the number 10 on the back at Mohammedan Sporting, will hit the ground running on Tuesday at Clubs Maidan ground.
