Fernando Hierro named Spain’s Head Coach for 2018 FIFA World Cup

The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has named former Real Madrid star Fernando Hierro as the head coach of the Spanish national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Hierro replaces Julen Lopetegui who has been sacked by the Spanish FA earlier today after the latter signed a contract with LaLiga giants Real Madrid to become their new head coach of after World Cup. The RFEF was reportedly informed by Lopetegui only five minutes before Real’s official announcement yesterday evening, which led to the dismissal 24 hours before the FIFA World Cup kick-off.

Hierro will conduct his first training session with “La Furia Roja” today afternoon, while the Spaniards take on Portugal in their first FIFA World Cup group stage match on Friday.
