Spain sack head coach Julen Lopetegui 24 hours before World Cup kick-off

The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) have sacked national team head coach Julen Lopetegui 24 hours before the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia. The decision was made after Lopetegui was named the new Real Madrid boss yesterday.

The 51-year-old gaffer was dismissed because the negotiation occurred “without any information to the RFEF” the Spanish FA stated. RFEF president Luis Rubiales was reportedly informed by Lopetegui on his decision to join Real Madrid just five minutes before the official announcement by the LaLiga giants.

Spain kick-off their FIFA World Cup campaign against Portugal on Friday.
