2nd Vedanta Women’s Football League teams meet at GFA office

A meeting of the participating teams in the Vedanta Women’s Football League 2018/19 took place at the GFA office in Panjim on July 25. The meeting was presided over by GFA President Elvis Gomes.

A total of eight teams will participate in the 2018/19 season of the league, which was founded by title-sponsors Vedanta in collaboration with the Goa Football Association (GFA).

Talking about the 2nd Vedanta Women’s Football League, GFA President Elvis Gomes said, “The Vedanta Women’s Football League is in furtherance to our goal to support women’s empowerment in Goa. It’s the right platform for women footballers to shine.”

FC Goa, Churchill Brothers SC and Ambelim Sports Club will feature for the first time in the 2nd edition of the Vedanta Women’s Football League, while the number of participating teams has been increased from six to eight.

The league will kick off on August 14 and there will one match per week. A match consists of two 35 minutes halves with a 15 minute half-time break in between.

The league winners will receive a cash award of Rs. 80,000. The runners-up (Rs. 50,000) and third placed team (Rs. 30,000) will be also feliciated, while individual awards will be given away in the categories “Golden Ball”, “Golden Boot” and “Most Promising Player”.

The league winners will represent the state in the upcoming Indian Women’s League (IWL) season.
