Chanmari FC start off Mizoram Independence Cup in clinical fashion

Former champions Chanmari FC began their LG Independence Cup campaign with a victory from Bethlehem Vengthlang FC with goals from Laldampuia and Lalrammuana.

The finalists in the recently concluded MFA Super Cup broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when new forward Laldampuia finished off a rebound from a fierce shot by Thomas which had struck the post.

After taking the lead in an even match up until the goal, Chanmari FC were happy to play out a patient game, looking to capitalise on the spaces left by Bethlehem Vengthlang FC as they searched for an equaliser.

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC made changes after the break that almost paid dividends instantly as substitute Ellis H. Zothansanga missed a glorious chance. Dina Varte soon followed suit and their profligacy in front of goal was soon punished by their opponents.

Looking to kill off the game, coach Lalruatliana Sailo introduced Lalrammuana in place of goalscorer Laldampuia. And the substitute repaid his manager’s faith by slotting past Bethlehem Vengthlang FC’s keeper Eddie Zorammawia in stoppage time.
