Indian Women’s national team go down to Madrid CF

The Indian Women’s national team ended their COTIF Tournament campaign with a solitary goal loss to Madrid CF in Spain. The Spanish side converted a penalty in the last minute of the regulation period to plunge the Indian girls into their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Madrid CF tried to seize the momentum early raiding the Indian citadel but were unable to get is past an agile Indian Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan.

The first chance for the Indian girls came in the 27th minute when Dangmei Grace put in a delicious cross for Sanju but the latter muffed it up.

Following the resumption, skipper Bala Devi got another opportunity in the 45th minute but her volley was blocked in the nick of time by the rival defender.

Having brought in Santhiya and Mandakini at the expense of Anju and Sanju respectively, Coach Maymol Rocky tried to bolster the defence line.

But Madrid had the last laugh when they earned a penalty in the added time which was gleefully converted.
