France legend Thierry Henry named new AS Monaco head coach

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have appointed Thierry Henry as their new head coach. The 41-year-old France legend has stepped down as assistant coach of the Belgian national team to sign a contract until June 2021.

Henry started his professional career as a footballer at AS Monaco in 1994. He played for the French club until 1998, before he went on to play for Juventus, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona and New York Red Bulls.

The 1998 FIFA World Cup and 2000 UEFA EURO winner will replace Leonardo Jardim as head coach. Jardim had a disastrous start to the 2018/19 season, which led to his sacking on Thursday.

Henry will take charge of his new team on Monday and he will be joined by his new assistant coaches João Carlos Valado Tralhão and Patrick Kwame Ampadu.
