Panjim Footballers win 2018 GFA Vedanta Women’s League title

Panjim Footballers emerged champions of the GFA Vedanta Women’s League for the second consecutive time following their goalless draw against Ambelim Sports Club at Ambelim ground, on Tuesday.

Panjim Footballers topped the table with 25 points from 11 matches and are yet to play their last game against Albert Developers.

Meanwhile, Goan FC are on second spot with 24 points after 12 matches and Churchill Brothers are on third spot with 20 points and are left to play their last game.

Coming into the game, Panjim Footballers coach Anthony Vaz knowing that a win could give them the second title fielded a strong team with regular goalkeeper Candice Fernandez and league’s highest scorer Karishma Sirvoikar upfront. But there was no much action as both teams played more of possession play. Panjim Footballers’ Karishma Shirvoikar scored 12 goals out of the team’s 17 goals scored throughout the league.

GFA President Churchill Alemao congratulated Panjim Footballers and said, “Being consistent is what matters the most and I would like to congratulate the team for winning the title for the second time in a row. Considering their performance throughout the league, Panjim worked hard for the title. It was great to see the girls compete at this level and with such a structure we should have better players in future.”

Speaking on Panjim Footballers winning the Vedanta Women’s League, Sukhvinder Singh, CEO, Sesa Football Academy said, “It is indeed a fantastic achievement by Panjim girls to win the second edition of the Vedanta Women’s League, in this fashion with a match still in hand. Their star striker Karishma Shirvoikar has been exceptional in the first season and brilliant in the second edition. At Vedanta Sesa Goa, we couldn’t have been happier to see the talent on display in the league. Women’s football in Goa has a great future.”
