Don’t accept racism and tackle the reasons behind intolerance

We can’t deny that there is a notable growth of intolerance and anxiety towards diversity in all fields of daily life in recent years. The racist abuse aimed towards Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is another sad incident which happened at a greater stage, in a football stadium.

Anti-racism campaigns, usual public statements and social media posts condemning racism are positive signals as always, but insufficient to fight racism in our society. Core values such as respect and tolerance have lost importance in our modern world. It is our responsibility to relearn these core values and to impart them to the youngest in our society. Parents are the first ones to set an example for their kids, but all of us should play an active role and educate the core values in schools, sports clubs and other public communities to reduce prejudices and intolerance.

Diversity is one of the biggest strengths of humankind and nothing to be afraid of.
