VfL Wolfsburg Ladies sign Germany international Svenja Huth

Women’s football powerhouses VfL Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Svenja Huth. The 28 year old Germany striker has signed a contract until 30 June 2022 and she will join the club at the beginning of the 2019/20 season from Women’s Bundesliga (Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga) rivals 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam.

“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge that lies ahead at VfL Wolfsburg next season,” said Huth in an official statement by her new club. “After four years in Potsdam, it’s time to take the next step in my development and to establish myself at a top European club with exceptional players and ideal facilities.”

“We’re incredibly pleased that one of the best German attacking players will be plying her trade in VfL colours from now on,” added VfL Ladies’ sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “Svenja has not only developed as a player in recent years, but she’s also developed into a character who embodies ambition and leads from the front. With these attributes, she fits perfectly into our team and at VfL Wolfsburg.”

Huth made her Women’s Bundesliga debut for 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2007 at the age of 16, before she went on to join Turbine Potsdam in 2015. She won seven titles with Frankfurt, including the 2008 UEFA Women’s Cup and the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The 2013 UEFA Women’s EURO champion and 2016 Rio Olympics gold medialist has represented the country at U-15, U-17, U-20 and senior level. She has earned 41 senior international caps so far and has been appointed as new vice-captain of the Germany Women’s national team a couple of days ago.
