United States beat Netherlands to win fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup title

The United States have won their fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup title. The defending champions beat the Netherlands 2-0 in the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

The Netherlands started off very well and looked to hit the United States on the counter-attack. But the US gained the upper hand as the match progressed.

Netherlands goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal denied the US girls with several classy saves, but she couldn’t do anything in the 61st minute. The favourites finally broke the deadlock as Megan Rapione slotted home a penalty kick.

Rose Lavelle doubled the lead eight minutes later to seal the win for the United States against a Dutch side which will get plenty of plaudits for reaching the final.

The USA, playing in their third consecutive final, continued their reign as the world champions as they added to their titles of 1991, 1999 and 2015.
