Favourites advance in German Women’s Cup Round 1

The DFB-Pokal der Frauen (German Women’s Cup) Round 1 matches took place around the country on Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4.

All twelve teams from the Women’s Bundesliga and the three best teams from the 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga (1. FC Köln, FF USV Jena and SV Meppen) had a Round 1 bye.

The remaining 34 teams locked horns last weekend, as almost all favourites advanced to the next round to join the remaining 15 teams in Round 2. RB Leipzig pulled the only upset of Round 1 with a 4-2 win against Women’s Bundesliga 2 side BV Cloppenburg.

FSV Gütersloh 2009 and 1. FC Saarbrücken hammered their opponents to register the biggest wins in Round 1. Gütersloh secured a 7-0 win at HSG Warnemünde, while Saarbrücken won their game against 1. FFV Erfurt with the same score line.

The Round 2 matches are scheduled to take place on September 7/8.
