Mohammedan Sporting invited for 2019 Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup

Mohammedan Sporting Club have been invited to participate in the 2019 Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup in Chittagong, Bangladesh alongside city rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

Bangladesh Premier League side Chittagong Abahani Limited organizes the tournament in every two years in the memory of Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman’s eldest son Sheikh Kamal, founder of the club, with support from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).

The Chairman of Chittagong Abahani and Chief Coordinator of the tournament organizing committee Jb. Tarafdar Mohammed Ruhul Amin visited the Mohammedan Sporting tent on Friday evening to hold a meeting with Mohammedan Sporting General Secretary Jb. Mohammed Qamaruddin, where Jb. Qamaruddin have shown an interest in participating.

The 2019 edition of the competition is likely to be held from October 20 to November 2, 2019 in Chittagong’s M.A. Aziz Stadium, where eight clubs from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand will feature.

The tournament first held in 2015 where hosts Chittagong Abahani beat East Bengal in the final to emerge champions. Maldives Premier League side TC Sports Club is the current holders after they won it in 2017 beating South Korean club Pocheon Citizen FC in the final.

Mohammedan Sporting also featured in the inaugural edition of the competition. However, they had a rather forgettable campaign as they knocked out from the group stage without winning a match.
