Germany WNT rout Norway to book their spot in the Algarve Cup final

The Germany Women’s national team registered a convincing 4-0 win against Norway in the semifinals of the 2020 Algarve Cup on Saturday.

Head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg fielded a new starting eleven in comparision to Germany’s 1-0 victoray over Sweden in the quarterfinals. But the changes didn’t have any negative effects on the German side which dominated the proceedings right from the beginning.

SGS Essen star striker Lea Schüller put Germany ahead in the 20th minute, while Johanna Elsig increased the lead six minutes later with a powerful header.

Germany remained the dominant side in the second half and created several scoring opportunities. But it was a Syrstad Engen goal own which handed Voss-Tecklenburg’s side a third goal in the 60th minute. Marina Hegering sealed a comprehensive 4-0 win with a header 71st minute.

Germany are scheduled to take on Italy in the final of the Algarve Cup on Wednesday (March 11). The Italians defeated New Zealand 3-0 in the second semifinal.
