DFB-Pokal - Finale 2020 - Bayer 04 Leverkusen vs FC Bayern München
FC Bayern Munich have won the 2019-20 DFB-Pokal (German Cup) title following a 4-2 victory against Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Satuday, July 4.
Bundesliga champions Bayern dominated the proceedings from kick-off and took the lead in the 16th minute when David Alaba curled a beautiful free kick into the back of the net.
Serge Gnabry increased the lead eight minutes later with a clinical finish from the right side of the box.
The Bavarians went into the half-time break with a 2-0 lead after another impressive performance.
Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký’s howler helped Bayern star striker Robert Lewandowski to score from 30 metres and to hand FC Bayern a 3-0 lead in the 59th minute.
But Bayer Leverkusen didn’t surrender and reduced the margin in the 64th minute when Sven Bender’s powerful header hit the target.
Propelled by the goal, Leverkusen created a few more promising scoring opportunities, but failed to deliver the final touch to challenge Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Lewandowski sealed Bayern’s win with his second goal of the evening in the 89th minute when the Poland international chipped the ball over Hrádecký to give Bayern a 4-1 lead.
Leverkusen once again reduced the margin with a late injury time goal from a Kai Havertz penalty, but the goal came to late to deny Bayern their 20th DFB-Pokal title.
