Atlético de Madrid have announced the signing of Germany women’s national team star Turid Knaak. The 29-year-old winger has inked a one-year deal and is expected to be part of Atlético’s squad for the UEFA Women’s Champions League eight-team knockout finals in August.
Knaak joins the Spanish giants from Women’s Bundesliga side SGS Essen to become a full-time professional footballer. She has worked as a research assistant at the University of Cologne to date, while writing her PhD thesis in special needs education.
The Essen-born footballer is a regular member of the German women’s national team squad. Atlético will be her second stint abroad after spending some time at Arsenal FC in 2014.
