FC Bayern beat PSG to win UEFA Champions League title

FC Bayern Munich have won the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League title after a tightly contested final at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon, Portugal on Sunday. Frenchman Kingsley Coman scored the decisive goal of the night to crown the German Bundesliga giants “Champions of Europe” for a sixth time in club history and for the first time since 2012-13.

The final turned out to be an entertaining affair with chances on both sides. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer denied PSG stars Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé a goal with his brilliant saves, while Robert Lewandowski’s attempts hit the post or were saved by PSG’s Keylor Navas.

It was destiny that the lone goal of the match was scored by a former PSG youth academy product: Kingsley Coman found the back of the net in the 59th minute with a fine header at the far post from Joshua Kimmich’s cross.

Bayern’s win was their 11th in as many games in the 2019-20 Champions League campaign, making them the first side to post a 100 per cent record in the tournament. The Champions League title is the icing on the cake for Bayern who impressed the football world with outstanding performances in domestic and continental competitions under their head coach Hansi Flick.

Flick guided Bayern to 21 successive victories which secured the Bavarians a historic second treble of Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal (German Cup) and UEFA Champions League titles.
