Fernando Santiago Varela to coach Churchill Brothers

Former Gokulam Kerala FC head coach Fernando Santiago Varela will be coaching their I-League rivals Churchill Brothers in the 2020/21 season.

Fernando announced on his own social media, “Here we go! I am delighted to announce all my fans and followers that I’m the new Head Coach of #ILeague Giant Churchill Brothers FC Goa… Super excited about the new challenge!”

Since first coming to India, Fernando Santiago Varela has had two coaching spells with Gokulam Kerala FC, the first cut short due to personal reasons in the 2018/19 season and Fernando returned to the Malabarians last season (2019/20) and they started off the season by lifting the 2019 Durand Cup in Kolkata but despite a lot of promise, the team did not get close to the 2019/20 I-League title.

The 47 year old Mar del Plata-born Spaniard of Argentinian origin Fernando Santiago Varela joins the former I-League champions from Goa, who will aim to lift the I-League title once more.
