Phoenix Contact and DSC Arminia Bielefeld announce technology partnership

Bundesliga side DSC Arminia Bielefeld has announced a new member to the “Bündnis Ostwestfalen”, an alliance of sponsors from the East Westphalia region in support of the club. Phoenix Contact will be the eleventh member of the alliance. The company will act as a technology partner, while creating a creative solution within the alliance and laying the foundation for new synergies not only for the club, but for all members of the alliance.

Phoenix Contact will support Arminia Bielefeld in areas including network infrastructure, cyber security and energy optimisation in the SchücoArena, e.g. ventilation and light control at the facility. The company has already completed initial digitalisation projects at Arminia Bielefeld’s home ground such as an optimised network connection for photographers on Bundesliga matchdays.

Arminia Bielefeld’s Managing Director Markus Rejek is delighted about the new partnership: “It’s not a secret that we have a need for improvement in terms of infrastructure and digitalisation. Phoenix Contact will help us to digitalise the SchücoArena step by step in the coming years and to shape the future. We have a pent-up demand in this specific area after years of an investment bottleneck.”

Frank Stührenberg, Chairman of the Board, Phoenix Contact, said: “We are able to contribute significantly to Arminia Bielefeld in terms of modernisation of the infrastructure and the digitalisation of the SchücoArena. We at Phoenix Contact have an excellent portfolio of solutions as well as a great expertise in automation of buildings. The digitalisation of the SchücoArena is a reference project with a great impact to us, which illustrates the charisma of this region – sportingly, as witnessed with Arminia’s promotion to the Bundesliga, but also technologically.”
