Goa FA condoles Dr. Wilson Benigno Duarte Mazarello’s death

The Goa Football Association (GFA) condoled the passing away of great former Academica (de Goa) football striker Dr. Wilson Benigno Duarte Mazarello from Velim in United Kingdom on Saturday.

Mr. Churchill Alemao, GFA President in a condolence message stated that Dr.Mazarello had played for Associacao Academica de Goa in fifties and sixties and distinguished himself as a lethal striker.

The 79-year-old brilliant forward had shifted to England in 2018 and was bed-ridden after he suffered a stroke.

Mr.Churchill pointed out that Dr.Mazarello was part of the then famous Academica football team in fifties and sixties and was inducted in the team when he was a student of Escola Medica de Goa (GMC) by late Fr.Chico Monteiro who was the Director of Lar dos Estudantes at Altinho where Dr.Mazarello was a boarder.

Mazarello who was known for his powerful shots was the son of late Dr.Sebastiao Mazarello, the first MLA from Cuncolim who was in the forefront of the Opinion Poll in 1967.

The dashing forward Dr.Mazarello had donned the colours for Goa in Santosh Trophy in 1965 Nationals in Guwahati.
