Top favourites advance to Women’s DFB-Pokal semi-finals

The German Women’s Cup (DFB-Pokal der Frauen) quarter-final matches took place over the weekend while the top favourites advanced to the next round.

FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga table toppers FC Bayern Munich kicked off the cup weekend with a 2-1 away win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Friday. Germany international Lea Schüller scored a brace for the Bavarians to take them to semi-finals, while Tabea Waßmuth pulled one back for the home side.

Defending DFB-Pokal champions VfL Wolfsburg trashed league rivals Werder Bremen 7-0 on Saturday. Alexandra Popp (2x), Rebecka Blomqvist, Lena Sophie Oberdorf, Svenja Huth, Franziska Jaser (own goal) and Ewa Pajor scored the goals at the AOK Stadion in Wolfsburg.

The SC Freiburg vs Turbine Potsdam match ended in an unexpected goal fest on Sunday: Freiburg registered a 6-3 win against Potsdam 6-3 at the Möslestadion. Janina Minge, Stefanie Sanders (2x), Ereleta Memeti, Tyara Buser and Marie Müller found the back of the net for the hosts, while Selina Cerci (2x) and Johanna Elsig reduced the margin for Turbine.

Eintracht Frankfurt completes the semi-final line-up after a 7-1 away win at SG 99 Andernach. Barbara Dunst (3x), Géraldine Reuteler (2x), Laura Freigang and Sandrine Mauron put their names on the score-sheet. Antonia Hornberg scored the lone goal for the 2nd Division side.

The German Women’s Cup semi-finals are scheduled to take place on April 3/4. Eintracht Frankfurt will play host to SC Freiburg, while VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern Munich clash in a mouth-watering encounter.
