Postponed 2020 SAFF Championship to be held in the Maldives in October

The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has decided to hand the hosting rights of the postponed 2020 SAFF Championship to the Maldives.

Originally it was planed to be played last year in Bangladesh, but they pulled out of hosting the tournament due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Then the Maldives and Nepal had applied to be the alternative hosts, but in the end SAFF decided to go with the islanders.

The 2020 SAFF Championship would now be played from October 1 to 13 at the Male Stadium and besides the hosts Maldives, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka are set to participate with Bhutan undecided if to participate or not.

Meanwhile Pakistan will miss this edition of the tournament due to their suspension by the world governing body FIFA.
