Santosh Trophy - Qualifiers: Delhi v Himachal Pradesh

The second matchday of the North Zone Qualifiers for the 69th National Football Championships for the Santosh Trophy took placce at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar on Sunday.

Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir played out a goalless draw in the first match of the day. The first half of the match was a lackluster affair between the two sides. However, combined well and started initiating certain effective moves after the half-time both teams, but both goalkeepers came to rescue their sides with superb saves. Thus both teams had to content with one point each out of this equally contested game.

In second match of the day, Delhi trounced Himachal Pradesh with an emphatic 4-0 win. Delhi took lead in the 21st minute when Abhishek Rawat took a well measured corner kick which directly entered the Himachal Pradesh goal post. In the 36th minute, Delhi combined well and succeeded to score their second goal of the game when Sonu delivered a well measured throw to his team mate Deepak Devrani who netted home second goal of the game.

In the second half, Delhi dominated the match proceedings and increased the lead in the 55th minute. Deepak Devrani provided a perfect pass to Deepak Mehra who did not waste any time to net home the third goal for his side. Deepak Mehra claimed another assist in the 58th minute when he put a well measured pass to his striking companion Abhay Rana who slotted home superbly.

The North Zone Qualifiers will continue with two Group A encounters on Monday as Punjab take on Uttar Pradesh at 12.00 IST, whereas Uttarakhand will clash with Chandigarh at 14.00 IST.
