Football fans in the German region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe can look forward to a festive and mouth-watering treat on Sunday, December 18, 2022, as two top teams from the 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga face each other. The currently second-placed FSV Gütersloh 2009 will welcome the current league leaders RB Leipzig on Matchday 12. The clash between the two top teams will be the last game before the winter break and will also take place at a special venue, the “Ohlendorf Stadion im Heidewald” in Gütersloh.

FSV Gütersloh is therefore returning to the historic venue for this highlight game, where on May 6, 2012, 1,502 spectators set a new attendance record for a women’s second division football game. For more than ten years, this number of visitors was the official club record of FSV, which was only surpassed this year, on September 11, 2022, in the Women’s DFB-Pokal (DFB Cup) game against VfL Wolfsburg. 2,039 spectators watched the game in the Tönnies Arena.

“We are very happy to be able to play our second division game against RB Leipzig at the Ohlendorf Stadium in Heidewald. It is a special stadium that is located in the heart of Gütersloh,” says Tobias Neumann, Deputy Managing Director & Head of Marketing / Sponsoring, FSV Gütersloh. “This game and the location of the stadium gives us the opportunity to reach out to new spectators and present top-class football which is played on our own doorstep. With RB Leipzig, the current table leader will come to Gütersloh on this day. So it will be a real pre-Christmas football highlight.”

The young team of FSV Gütersloh draws attention to itself with strong performances in the on-going 2022/23 season. For example, they started the season with a furious 5-1 win against SC Sand, who had been relegated from the first division, the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga, while the ambitious team from RB Leipzig defeated first division side Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal last weekend.

“RB Leipzig is a very strong opponent who have once again proved their qualities against Eintracht Frankfurt. We’re also enjoying a great season so far, but our team knows how to pin down their own performances. Our players and coaching staff work meticulously for success and remain down-to-earth like the entire club,” says Chris Punnakkattu Daniel, Strategic Advisor at FSV Gütersloh. “We are pleased that we can play our last game before the winter break at a tradition-rich venue. It should be a nice pre-Christmas, as well as sporty, attractive football festival for the whole family. We would be pleased to welcome a lot of spectators for this highlight game, because our team deserves this support.”

Ticket sales for the game between FSV Gütersloh and RB Leipzig have already started. Fans can buy tickets for this match via the official FSV ticket shop at www.fsvguetersloh.de. Tickets already purchased remain valid and entitle you to enter the Ohlendorf Stadium in Heidewald.
