German 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga side FSV Gütersloh organized a fundraising campaign for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria during yesterday’s top game in the 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga against leaders RB Leipzig. 240 spectators watched the game live in the Tönnies Arena and, with their visit, made a contribution to support the people affected in the earthquake region.

In the run-up to the game, FSV Gütersloh decided to donate one euro for every ticket sold. Thanks to the support of the Thiesbrummel bakery, confectionery & fresh market, fresh waffles could also be sold on the matchday, so that the entire income from waffle sales goes also into the donation pot. FSV Gütersloh was able to collect a total donation amount of 500 euros.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the spectators. By attending our home game, you made the decisive contribution to generate a small donation. We would certainly have been very happy if even more spectators had found their way to the arena and to the top game of the 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga. Nevertheless, we are certain that the donations collected will make an important contribution to helping people in the earthquake-affected areas,” says Michael Horstkötter, Managing Director of FSV Gütersloh. “A thank you also goes to the Thiesbrummel company, which made the sale of fresh waffles possible with their waffle dough donation, as well as to the fans and sponsors present who kept filling the donation pig.”

FSV Gütersloh will donate the sum of 500 euros to the “Aktion Deutschland Hilft e. V. – Alliance of German Aid Organizations”. The “Aktion Deutschland Hilft” is an association of German aid organizations under the patronage of the former Federal President Mr. Horst Köhler, as well as the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Foreign Minister Ms. Annalena Baerbock. The member organizations include the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland, AWO International, CARE Deutschland and the Malteser Hilfsdienst.
