DSC Arminia Bielefeld registered a decent 1-1 draw against Dutch giants FC Twente Enschede in a Women’s football pre-season friendly match at the Biekra-Sportpark in Bielefeld on Tuesday evening.
Both sides had to cope with the hot and humid conditions, but they entertained the fans with some good football by stages.
Twente led by Netherlands international Renate Jansen looked like the better side in the early stages of the match, but Bielefeld settled quickly and created a few goal scoring opportunities.
But both sides couldn’t find the back of the net in the first half, as they went into the half-time break with a 0-0 draw.
Netherlands U-19 international Lynn Wilms broke the deadlock in her debut for the club, when she put the ball past the Bielefeld goalkeeper in the second half.
But Arminia Bielefeld, who shockingly relegated from the Women’s Bundesliga 2 to the 3rd Division (Regionalliga) at the end of the 2017/18 season, didn’t surrender and kept on pushing which resulted in the deserving equalisier through Giustina Ronzetti.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw as both coaches gained a lot of new insights on their teams and on the work which needs to be done ahead of their first respective competitive matches in the coming weeks. Arminia Bielefeld will kick-off their 2018/19 campaign against Magdeburger FFC in a DFB-Pokal der Frauen (Women’s German Cup) 1st Round match on August 12, while Twente Enschede start their season with a Eredivisie fixture against PSV Eindhoven on September 7.
