Mumbai FC’s new signing Taisuke Matsugae is looking forward to play for his club in the new 2014-15 season.

Here is an interview with the Japanese medio on Mumbai FC, the I-League and much more.

INTERVIEW

Taisuke, welcome to Mumbai! How does it feel to have joined Mumbai FC?
I’m very happy to join the club.  I’m excited about playing for Mumbai FC next season. Very eager to join my teammates for pre-season.

What do you know about the city of Mumbai?
I think Mumbai is one of the most prosperous city in Asia. I look forward to playing for this beautiful city. I haven’t really had the chance to experience the city life yet. Although a couple of my friends from Mumbai did warn me from boarding local trains (laughs).

Who was the most influential person at Mumbai FC in your decision to move to this club?
Mr. Khalid Jamil. The Head Coach was very influential. He wanted me at the club. And once I was convinced that I fit the club and coach’s philosophy, I signed immediately.

You’ve played quite a few games for Shillong Lajong. How did you like the competition in the I-League?
All I-League teams are tough to play. There are always some favorites but all teams stand a chance to win the league. It’s very unpredictable here.

You are known to play both, in attacking midfield and as a forward. Have you discussed with the coach about what position he will be playing you in?
I like to play in attacking midfield. But the important part is victory. I give my best in whatever position I play. As I said earlier I think I fit the club and coach’s philosophy. That’s what matters the most.

What according to you is the main ingredient to be successful?
Working hard is the main ingredient to be successful and I have seen that in Mumbai FC. If we work hard I am positive we will do well. I remember playing against them last season where I did manage a goal but it was a really tough game. The Mumbai team did not give up till the last whistle.

Could you share your experiences of playing in the Japanese League (J-League)?
It was good out there. I had some good days. Football in Japan is exciting. If you compare to India it is obviously at a higher level but the conditions in both countries are different. Also recently I have seen a lot of development in Indian football, especially the youngsters.

Any message for the Mumbai FC fans!
