German giants FC Bayern Munich are enjoying their winter training camp at the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence in Doha. The Germans had their third day of training in the Qatari capital today.
Brazilian defender Rafinha joined his colleagues on the practise ground only today after arriving late in Qatar due to visa problems. Rafinha arrived yesterday evening from his Christmas vacation in Brazil via Frankfurt.
Coach Jupp Heyneckes laid his focus on fitness and stamina in his training session on Tuesday evening. Arjen Robben aund Anatoliy Tymoshchuk stood out in the four heats with each of them having a distance of 1.6 km. The fitness session had a duration of 2 hours.
Tennis fans Mario Gomez, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Danijel Pranjic used the spare time in the evening to attend the ATP Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2012, which is happening just a stone’s throw from the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence. The three Bayern players watched superstar Roger Federer in action against his Russian counterpart Nicolay Davydenko at the court. Federer won the match 6:2, 6:2.
Meanwhile, the Germans have arranged another friendly match during their winter camp in Doha. Bayern will face Qatari 2nd Division club Al-Sailiya Sport Club on Thursday. The Qatari club is coached by former Germany assistant coach Uli Stielike.
The match will take place on one of the grounds of the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence and is scheduled to kick-off at 17.30 local time.
Bayern will face Al Ahly Cairo (January 7) in their second friendly match at Doha, before they continue their journey to India on January 9. The Germans will face the Indian national team in the “Audi Football Summit” at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi a day after their arrival.
