UEFA Champions League Finals 2012

The next five days will be crucial days for 1. FFC Frankfurt. The German side will face FC Bayern Munich in the German Women’s Cup final later today, before they take on Olympique Lyon in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final on Thursday.

Frankfurt is considered as the top favourites against Bayern and the pressure is immense to win the title. The Frankfurt side will be eager to enter the UWCL week with a morale boosting win at Cologne’s RheinEnergie Stadion, the venue of the German Women’s Cup final.

Frankfurt has won the German Women’s Cup eight times and team manager Siggi Dietrich has already stated that his side is looking forward to win the title for a ninth time.

But the Frankfurt camp is not taking the title for granted. “We need to be careful! We lost to minnows quite a few times,” Frankfurt and Germany star Lira Bajramaj warned.

“We are yet to achieve anything in this season. We would like to do everything possible to decide this first final in our favour,” Frankfurt coach Sven Kahlert told.

Kahlert’s counterpart Thomas Wörle knows that his side is the clear underdog in the final and he has no pressure on his side. “I don’t see any pressure for us. Frankfurt need to win this final to avoid disappointing season.”

“We played our last final 22 years ago. So it is a great appeal for us. It could be a historic day for our team,” said Wörle.

Both teams will miss the services of several key players. Nadine Angerer, Kim Kulig and Ali Krieger will be missed on the Frankfurt roster, while Bayern will go into the final without Julia Simic and Petra Wimbersky.

Frankfurt is expecting nothing less than a win today, but the Bayern ladies could spoil their plans and create a setback in the “European Week of Glory”…
