UEFA EURO 2012: When “Football loves Couture”…

Football loves Couture by Marie Amière

The beautiful game of football has various facets nowadays and footballers are rather brands than sportsmen. Superstars like David Beckham or Cristiano Ronaldo are fashion icons and they are adored by millions of fans worldwide. German model and presenter Marie Amière has launched a label called “Football loves Couture” in her aim to bring together two beautiful fields of social life: Football and Fashion!

Marie Amière was born in the German city of Hamburg to a German mother and a Ghanaian father. She has established herself as a highly coveted model for international high-end brands such as Joop, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Escada, La Perla and many more. Marie was even named the “Playmate of the Month” (July 2003) to become the first-ever black model to receive the honour in the German edition of the “Playboy” magazine.

Marie, a football fan and huge admirer of Zinedine Zidane, had the idea to launch a football-related fashion label for women in 2006, when Germany hosted the FIFA World Cup. The tournament was a huge success and Marie had a vision to create a glamorous and sexy collection of German football shirts.

The vision turned reality in April 2010 and “Football loves Couture” (www.football-loves-couture.de) was born – just in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa! Marie came round the corner with a premium fashion collection of sexy shirts, which can be worn at public viewings as well as in clubs for partying. The collection was enhanced with a dirndl collection in 2011. A drindl is a type of traditional dress worn in Bavaria, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants.

“Women can support the team with the ‘FLC by Marie Amière’ collection at the public viewing and have a dinner in a gourmet restaurant or go to a club afterwards – and she will be always dressed perfectly,” Marie told.

Marie has designed new products just in time for the UEFA EURO 2012 in Poland and the Ukraine. The new collection has been launched recently and the shirts display an adaption of the German flag made of rhinestones. Marie has purposely decided to make use of a blonde, a red and a black haired model to present her new collection with the aim to symbolise the new multicultural Germany.

Talking about the UEFA EURO 2012 and the German prospects, Marie told www.chrispd.de: “The German national team is of course my favourite! I consider footballers as the modern-day gladiators. I love it, when the boys play like it’s a matter of life and death. And that’s what I expect from our team.”

Asked about her plans to expand the collection with new country shirts other than Germany and if India could be one of the new shirts, Marie told me: “Yes, of course! That would be really terrific! Let’s see, what can be achieved for the 2014 World Cup.”

Marie had also a message to all football fans with just one day left for the kick-off of the prestigious continental finals: “Celebrate our boys and show the colours!”

I would like to highly recommend you to have a look at Marie’s “Football loves Couture” collection at www.football-loves-couture.de and her personal website www.marieamiere.de.
