Rooney signs for I-League outfit Salgaocar SC

Australian Sean Daniel Rooney has signed a contract with Goan side Salgaocar SC. The 23-year old striker will be joining the I-League side from Indonesian Super League club Deltras FC.

“Sean has been training with us for about a week; he has also played three friendly matches in which he scored in every match,” Salgaocar coach Karim Bencharifa told ‘The Navhind Times’. “He managed to impress me with his skills, technique and a deft scoring touch.”

“I believe he is going to be a good prospect for us with his scoring ability upfront, something which we want to improve compared to our last season,” Karim added.

“We had shortlisted some Asian players for the trials and we have signed Sean Rooney who fits into our system. We hope that he will deliver his best performance
with us,” Salgaocar’s General Secretary Rosario A. J. Gomes said.

Rooney started his football career at Blacktown City FC before he joined the youth team of A-League outfit Sydney FC. He continued his senior career with another A-League club, Newcastle Jets FC, and once again his home team Blacktown City FC. The striker went on to Indonesia to join Deltras FC in 2011.

The youngster has represented Australia at junior level. Rooney played for the the Young Socceroos (Australian U20 national team) in the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup qualifiers.
